BRONWEN JAMES | CIVIL CELEBRANT
ABOUT BRONWEN
My name is Bronwen James (often referred to as 'Bronnie'), I have been married to the wonderful Craig for 22 years. I have three children ranging in age from 20 to 11 years as well as a foster child to whom my family offers respite care.
I received my registration as a Civil Marriage Celebrant from the Attorney General’s Department in 2011 and completed a Certificate in Funeral Celebrancy at the same time. Both these courses were undertaken through the Academy of Celebrancy Australia (a nationally recognised training organisation).
Up until this time, my vocation has been as a freelance professional actor and voice-over artist for both television and radio. My training included time in both London and Los Angeles during the 80’s and upon my return I performed with most of Adelaide’s professional theatre companies, including the State Theatre Company, in everything from Shakespeare to David Williamson.
I have worked as a workshop facilitator for children of all ages both in schools and in a one-on-one coaching capacity, and for corporate clients. I have devised and presented programmes to inspire teachers to incorporate drama-based skills into their teaching and have directed and written for theatrical, musical and dance events including creating scripts and performing in MC roles for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
Most recently I have been directing theatrical events for the Hutt Street Centre working with their homeless clients and also with a group of recovering gamblers, “The Real Spinners” where we are using drama and story-telling as a catharsis but also to educate the public about the dangers of gambling.
I believe I am an empathetic and sensitive person, able to gauge situations quickly.
I am a good listener and communicator and my strength lies in being able to compose and structure ceremonies that are an authentic expression of the person/people involved.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with families to create unique and memorable rituals that appropriately reflect their needs and exceed their expectations.
